In October 2013, the inaugural Open VA Conference proved to be a fantastic opportunity for educators, educational technology experts, and administrators to get together and share innovative initiatives and projects utilizing open and digital learning resources. This year’s event will build upon Open VA’s success with a more intensive “Summit” format which will provide an opportunity for this community of leaders to create a framework for state policy on open education resources. The Summit will feature three sessions of focused analysis on the following topics: 1) open infrastructure, 2) open content/resource, and 3) open pedagogy/curriculum. A final culminating session will develop a “Call to Action”, creating specific strategies to recommend to Virginia’s executive and legislative leadership, SCHEV, VCCS and higher education institutions’ administrations for the support and promotion of open resources. While some invited experts will serve as panelists, all sessions are intended to encourage engaged contributions from every Summit participant.
